A major cause of aging is a reduction in the energy-producing components of the cell, resulting in reduced cellular metabolic activity, and the accumulation of cellular debris. Acetyl-L-Carnitine is an amino acid derivative that occurs naturally within the body. Acetyl-L-carnitine (ALC) may be the acetyl ester of carnitine and it is distributed throughout the central and peripheral nervous system. Acetyl-L-Carnitine has also been shown to enhance levels of serotonin and norepinephrine, key neurotransmitters which have a crucial role in brain and mood function. Acetyl-L-Carnitine also targets brain metabolism, acting as a potent neuroprotectant and increasing cellular energy. L-carnitine helps maintain cellular energy metabolism by assisting in the transport of fatty acids from the cytosol into the mitochondria within the cell, where fats are oxidized to produce the cellular energy (adenosine triphosphate or ATP).

Product Description

Acetyl-L-carnitine is the acetylated ester of the amino acid L-carnitine. Acetyl-L-carnitine is an endogenous mitochondrial membrane compound that helps maintain mitochondrial bioenergetics and lowers the increased oxidative stress associated with aging. Acetyl-L-carnitine is one of the finest addition to your anti-aging regimen, especially if you are taking HGH for anti-aging.

Acetyl-L-carnitine and L-carnitine are absorbed into the bloodstream efficiently. Both are effective at carrying long-chain fatty acids across the membrane into the mitochondria where they are burned for energy production and utilized efficiently by the cells. Acetyl-L-carnitine also crosses the blood-brain barrier and guards against oxidative damage. Amyloid-beta peptide is a principal component of plaques and is thought to be a contributor to the aging process. Acetyl-L-carnitine exerts protective effects against such neurotoxicity and oxidative stress.

Ingredients

“Vitamin C (as ascorbyl palmitate) 4mg, Acetyl-L-Carnitine (from acetyl-L-carnitine hydrochloride) 500mg, Other ingredients: vegetable cellulose (capsule), microcrystalline cellulose, silica.”

Directions

Take two (2) capsules once or twice daily, or as recommended by a healthcare practitioner. This product is best utilized when taken on an empty stomach with water or juice in divided doses 45 minutes before breakfast and lunch.

If negative effects of allergic reaction occurs, discontinue Mitochondria Basics with Bio-PQQ, R-Lipoic acid, acetyl-l-carnitine arginate, supplements immediately.

Could Acetyl L Carnitine Arginate be a viable therapy for stopping aging from the inside out?

Yes. Acetyl-L-carnitine is one of the finest addition to your anti-aging regimen, especially if you are taking HGH for anti-aging.

ALCAR side effects

Be assured of data showing that acetyl-L-carnitine is generally safe in most adults when taken within the recommended dose range. ALCAR side effects are usually not very serious and the risks they present are far outweighed by its wide range of benefits. These health benefits include weight loss, memory enhancement to help in Alzheimer’s disease, dementia and age related mental impairment, improvement in depression, use in the treatment of stroke, Parkinson’s disease, protective effect on the central nervous system and beneficial effect on the heart. Acetyl-L-carnitine has also been shown to improve visual memory and attention in individuals with Down Syndrome.

ALCAR side effects include stomach upset, abdominal cramps, vomiting, nausea, headache and restlessness. People taking it may also develop fishy odor of the breath, sweat and urine. Additional ALCAR side effects are feeling hyperactive and insomnia when taken later in the day. Since acetyl-l-carnitine, as a weight loss supplement, curtails appetite, the extreme scenario would be another item included in the list of ALCAR side effects – anorexia nervosa. Some of the ALCAR side effects specific to particular patient groups include a rise in the frequency of seizure attacks in persons with seizure disorder, possible psychiatric disturbances like confusion and depression in Alzheimer’s disease patients, and some data also indicated that this supplement may hamper thyroid metabolism.

To mitigate ALCAR side effects related to the gastrointestinal tract, the supplement is recommended to be taken with meals. It is prudent for people with GI problems like gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) to seek a doctor’s advice before taking acetyl-l-carnitine. To avoid difficulty in sleeping, take it earlier in the day. As with many medications, acetyl-L-carnitine is not recommended for pregnant and lactating women nor for patients suffering from severe liver or kidney disease as no study has been done to establish its safety on these special patient groups. Should it really be necessary to take acetyl-l-carnitine, dialysis patients should take it with a physician’s supervision.

User Review

I was ordering this directly from LifeExtension but could no longer locate it on their website. I was super pleased to find it here since it was a great deal less money and the delivery was faster.

I have been taking this along with life extensions super r-lipoic acid and super ubiquinol coq10 with enhanced mitochondrial support since january in hopes of increasing my energy levels and improving general health. The combination did allow me to return to a more youthful energy level but it didn’t take long for me to notice a side effect I didn’t expect… I have lost 17 lbs since January 8th and have not restricted my food intake in any way. I have also not excersized at all. I am now at my ideal weight for my height and my bmi is also appropriate. (I had given up and figured the extra weight went along with my increasing age) I have continued to take the supplements to help with general health and energy levels for an additional 6 wks. I have not continued to lose weight. (which is good cause if I did I would be under weight by now)

Before taking these supplements I never drank water. I mostly drank coffee and mt. dew. Since taking the supplements I find I don’t need or want the extra sugar and caffeine; I actually want water. (maybe that is why I lost the weight)

I would purchase from this supplier again and have recommended them to family and friends.

As a reminder, please consult your personal physician before taking any supplements.

Experts Comments

So acetyl-L-carnitine is obviously the most bioavailable form associated with the carnitines when we are dealing with the blood-brain barrier.

In some studies on Oxiplatin: Acetyl-L-carnitine decreased pain associated with oxiplatin. Further details are lacking.

L-Carnitine Arginate And Alpha Lipoic Acid may Support Energy, Brain, Memory, Cardiovascular Health, 100 Caps

There were no Hot flashes reported by people who take Acetyl-l-carnitine arginate hcl yet. Decreased levels of carnitine related to chemotherapy have demonstrated an ability in other human studies, although limited details are available. Acetyl-L-carnitine may have protective effects against chemotherapy-induced pain, and a review suggests the promise of carnitine for adverse aftereffects of antineoplastics . The anticancer effects of carnitine have been shown in various in vitro studies.

There is certainly L-carnitine, acetyl-L-carnitine which gets more into the brain than the heart, and there’s PLC, that has a very fast half-life (the full time needed for something to fall to half its initial value) both in the bloodstream because it quickly enters into the muscle cells it gets in the heart and in addition into the cells as it quickly is consumed doing its job of shuttling essential fatty acids to the inner mitochondrial membrane.

Liver enzymesLiver enzymes: Evidence from randomized controlled trials suggests that L-carnitine could be of great benefit to people with hepatic encephalopathy, in terms of bilirubin, ammonia, urea, and liver enzymes . In human research, acetyl-L-carnitine reduced degrees of AST, ALT, and hepatitis C viremia; significant between-group difference in quantities of bilirubin and albumin were lacking.

In animal studies, acetyl-L-carnitine improved cisplatin-induced auditory impairments, perhaps due to its antioxidant and antiapoptotic effects. In animal research, propionyl-L-carnitine reversed cisplatin-induced carnitine deficiency and improved renal and hepatic parameters.

I had long previously taken, and continue steadily to use, Acetyl L-Carnitine & Acetyl L-Carnitine Arginate at 2,400 mg, Zinc Picolinate 50 mg, and Pine Bark Extract 100 mg. These latter supplements have no effect on sensitivity. Because of the discovery of acetyl-L-carnitine arginate, the advantages of acetyl-L-carnitine can now be greatly augmented.

But no body understands perhaps acetyl-L-carnitine L-carnitine’s after-effects are from your own chemical itself in the lcarnitine it may create or from some other compound. Further details are lacking. Acetyl-L-carnitine will also improve retinal receptors plus it’s demonstrated an ability to improve macular degeneration. Associated with this last point, a study in Italy showed that three grams of acetyl-L-carnitine and PLC in combination was as good as testosterone.

Acetyl-L-Carnitine has also been proven to help keep neurons functional and healthy and protect membrane signals receptors in mental performance. Acetyl L Carnitine Arginate is extremely well-liked by people over the age of 30 who are searching to improve memory, mental clarity, and alertness to levels they associate with youth.

According to a doctor- “I have patients who pre-Alzheimer’s, I have patients with strokes, I have patients with full-blown Alzheimer’s disease, patients with senile dementia—and I really like acetyl-L-carnitine.”

I had long previously taken, and continue to use, Acetyl L-Carnitine & Acetyl L-Carnitine Arginate at 2,400 mg, Zinc Picolinate 50 mg, and Pine Bark Extract 100 mg. These latter supplements do not have influence on penile sensitivity but Alcar has.

Acetyl-L-Carnitine has also been shown to be especially efficient at reducing insulin resistance and decreasing hypertension.

Acetyl-L-Carnitine Arginate (ALCA) and Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) offer the mitochondrial production of energy. Strengthening the protective myelin sheath which surrounds the brain nerves is among the most critical ways that Acetyl-L-Carnitine improves cognitive function and safeguards the brain. This protective ability not just enhances power to form and keep maintaining new memories, it really is another way in which Acetyl-L-Carnitine potentiates and complements other nootropic supplements. Acetyl-L-Carnitine also works within the body, performing many associated with identical functions as L-carnitine. Acetylcholine is composed of acetate (that you will get from Acetyl-L-Carnitine) and choline.

Acetyl-L-Carnitine Arginate (ALCA) as nootropic:– The protective ability not merely enhances ability to create and maintain new memories, it is another manner in which Acetyl-L-Carnitine potentiates and complements other nootropic supplements.
